The event, which started in 2005 as a Late Model invitational race and was expanded to the Modifieds in 2008, was scheduled to be the season-ending event on Saturday, Sept. 28.
However, due to several logistical problems in running the event for a ninth year, management decided to cancel the Shootout for this year.
Track management will instead focus its efforts into the final four race nights of the season and hosting a banquet at the end of the season.
This Saturday is regular racing in all five classes, highlighted by the Rick Haskell memorial race for the Lube Tech/Great Canadian Oil Change UMP Late Models.
The following Saturday, Sept. 7, is championship night for the Windride Transportation Sport Stocks and Tirecraft Mini-Mods.
The Schinkels Gourmet Meats UMP Modifieds and Lube Tech/Great Canadian Oil Change UMP Late Models will have their championship on Saturday, Sept. 21 (there is no racing on Sept. 14).
There will still be racing on Sept. 28, as it will be a special ‘Fun Night,’ including Power Puff and Mechanics races. More details will be announced in September.
The banquet takes place Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Chatham Banquet Hall (former CAW Hall) on Merritt Ave. Ticket sales and more details will be announced.
The management and staff at South Buxton Raceway share in the disappointment of drivers and fans in having to make the difficult decision to cancel the Canadian Fall Shootout.
The management certainly intends on bringing the Shootout back on the 2014 schedule.
