After a week off for weather, the stock cars will be back on the track Saturday at South Buxton Raceway.
All five classes will be in action, with the grandstand opening at 5:30 p.m. and green flag waving at 7 p.m.
There will be a pre-race barbecue preceding the races at 3:30 p.m. The cost is $5 per person for a pork dinner and fixings. There will also be a raffle draw with a variety of prizes.
All proceeds will go to enhancing the track’s security camera system, in the wake of the vandalism spree which occurred three weeks ago.
So plan on coming out the track a little earlier today, enjoy a great meal and take your chance on winning some fabulous prizes.
There are two new division leaders going into Saturday’s action.
Chatham’s Brian Speelman moved atop the Schinkels Gourmet Meats UMP Modified standings, 12 points ahead of Louis Clements and 13 up on Darryl Hoekstra, both from Chatham.
Shrewsbury’s Jim Dale Jr., the two-time defending champion, dropped from first to fourth, just 16 points behind Speelman, after a DNF in the May 25 feature.
Defending UMP Late Model champion Gregg Haskell from Chatham is the new points leader, 48 points ahead of Jim Jones, also from Chatham. Leamington’s Justin Coulter led the first three weeks but raced in Ohio on May 25.
Two Merlin drivers are atop the Windride Transportation Sport Stocks standings as Steve Shaw leads two-time defending series champion Eren Vanderiviere by 11 points.
Cottam’s Denis DeSerrano, who has three feature wins and nine checkered flags in 12 races this season, has a 44-point lead over Merlin’s Jody Mason in the Tirecraft Mini-Mods. Randy McKinlay, of Chatham, fell from second to sixth after missing the May 25 feature when he was taken out by another car less than 100 feet from the finish line while while leading on the final lap of the heat race.
Following this week’s racing, South Buxton will have five straight weeks of major events.
The Can-Am Topless Sprints will be at the track on June 15, followed by the Patriots Sprint Tour Canadian Mid-Season championship on June 22 and the TUSAC Mod Lites on June 29.
Memorial night, rained out last Saturday, is rescheduled for July 6, followed one week later by the Mid-Season championships.
Please Note: South Buxton Raceway prohibits anyone under the age of 13 years of age in the pits before or during the race program. All those entering the pits must be 14 years of age, and proof of birth is required for entry.
